"Unconventional Family"

"On the eastern shore of Maryland, lies the tiny barrier island of Assateague. These feral horses, which are described in folklore as descendants of horses who survived a shipwreck off the coast of Virginia, were made famous by the book Misty of Chincoteague. The small herd of horses forms an unconventional family, who withstand the courses of nature together. They stick together to battle heat, bugs, poor quality food, and storms. Having become tourist attractions, some have learned to beg for food, which often leads to sickness or death by car. Respect this family by treating them like wild animals."
